Just the other day I came across a video by Carina Fragozo, a videologger and English teacher who gives tips on how to improve your English. I think she's great! Well, on this video she was teaching people how to improve their speaking without having an interlocutor; yes, completely alone, in the quietness of your house... just talking to yourself! But... is it possible?
Yes! Definetely, yes!
I wrote an e-book giving tips to students on how to improve their English - "Por que Não Aprendo Inglês?"- and it is available on amazon.com.br. . In this book, I give the same piece of advice: talk to yourself! Maybe, you're in the shower, and you start to remeber what you have to do during the day. Why not say it out loud, in English? Example: "Today I have to attend a meeting at 3 o'clock, and after work I'm attending a lecture on how to improve my English..." and so on.
You can also improve your past tenses, by talking to yourself about the things you did yesterday; example: "Yesterday I was very tired so I decided to stay home. I watched a film, had dinner and then..."
You can also learn new adjectives. Start talking about your personality, or someone else's personality (in this case you don't even have to worry about being kind, because the person in question won't be there to listen!). 😏 If there is an adjective you'd like to use but do not know how to say it in English, all you have to do is look it up in an online dictionary! This way, you will also improve your vocabulary.
If you love films, try to tell yourself about the plot of a film you've seen. For example, you can start by: "This is the story of Forrest Gump, a very unusual man who..."
As you can see, there are no excuses: you can practice your English and learn more things even when you are alone at home!
